Since 2020 Norfolk Non-Native Species Initiative and Norfolk Rivers Trust have been working in partnership to work towards the eradication of Himalayan Balsam in the River Wensum catchment. This is a project that is funded by Anglian water and although the coronavirus did slow the start of the project, 2022 and 2023 have seen a large number of balsam control events taking place in the rivers tributaries and headwaters. These events have been carried out by work parties from national organisations, established volunteer groups, landowners and members of the public.
In 2024 the management of Himalayan balsam along the Wensum catchment is going to be extended and extensive. We are looking for volunteers who are able to lend a hand at 1 or more balsam control sessions. If this is you, please contact us on NNNSI@norfolk.gov.uk and we can match you up with a local group or session.
